I grew up in Warren and my mother used to love going to the Daly on Groesbeck Hwy.. I have to admit.. I was always scared driving in as I always thought that ENORMOUS Daly Drive -in sign (seriously--it was huge) would fall on our car! (loved the ice cream and the junior daly burger!)

I was born and raised in Livonia. Before the coming of age on my 16th birthday, my parents took my sister and I to the Livonia location for dinner on a frequent basis for years. I loved the foot long hot dog and don’t think I ever had any other entre’. I remember the Daly Double and the board on the wall. Way out of my league. In September 1965, I got my driver license. I do not think I ever went again with my parents. I cannot count how many nights I spent at the drive-inn. It started with a 58 Impala, a 66 Falcon, a 61 Impala convertible, and finally my 67 Charger. I can recall many nights with friends, before or after, we went drag racing on Telegraph. Daly was the symbol of great food, hot cars and hot girlfriends in 1960's Livonia. BTW, I have tried for years to duplicate the hot dog chili sauce to no avail.

I remember cruising the Livonia store with my best friends older sister Bonnie, in her friend Lindas' Road Runner. Checking out the boys and backing in. Those were the days.

We always took our dates to the Beech Daly store back in the 70's. But when I was a smaller kid I'd go with Grandma, Aunt and Uncle to the Plymouth store. They introduced me to the foot long. It brings back memories. I work by the Livonia store now, I need a Daly burger and fries fix!

I pumped gas as a teenager in the late 70's in Romulus at Northline and Huron River Drive. On saturdays the boss would treat us to Daly's. I loved the Dalydog!!!

When I was little we would go to Daly's in Romulus after going to Dr. Everingham's office. Then as we got older, my sisters got jobs at Kelsey Hayes, which wasn't far from Daly's...so my mom would drop them off in the summer and I'd go along for the ride...and a hot dog.

Oh my gosh! Daly's at Grand River and Burt in Detroit holds an indelible spot in my memories, ca. late-60s thru mid-70s: Peaches the car hop, bless her sweet heart; Pat the car hop (and the night she threw money); Carol the bouffonte cook. The "lot" was our social epicenter. We know who we are, how much fun we had, and what we drove: multiple Vettes, Torino, Camaro, Trans Am, Carmengia, MG, Datsun, Biscayne, Tempist, Falcon (2), VW convertable, Vega, Firebird, Impala, The Bird Catcher, and the list goes on. Good times. What happened at Daly's stayed at Daly's. Good clean fun. Big smiles.

I can remember Mr Bill Ihlenfeldt back in 1955 when My Dad and I use to come to Dalys On Beech Daly Rd. He was a wonderful man and always treated Dad and I like we were family. We would stop in after racing my 1/4 midget I was 9 years old...
I remember one evening eating my first Pigs Dinner, By golly I finished too... It was a chore... Only 75 cents. Of course Bill praised me for my defeating the Dinner. And another customer gave me a quarter..
I now live in Pickerington Ohio, But I am still have the Daly habit. I use to live in West dearborn at the time and will always remember my friend Bill who passed away in 1972... Thanks for the memories.

We visited the Detroit location at 17195 east of Harper near Cadieux. After band practice or after a gig the Daly Drive In was a must do. Love the Daly Burger and the great Daly Tradition. Visit my Tribute to the Daly Restaurants at http://myspace.com/dalyrestaurants Hope you enjoy the classic commercial from 1964.
Coming soon the lyrics to the Daly Song

I worked at the Daly in Dearborn Hgts. for 8 years, it was my first job. I had so much fun. Bill was a great boss and a great person. I seen someone tried to revive the old resteraunt but it closed again soon after. I wish it would reopen again, the food was awesome. I think I'll have to visit the plymouth road store tonight. Thanks for the great memories.

I grew up just a block and a half from the Daly's in Dearborn Heights (on Beech Daly Rd) and I loved it! Whenever I am home visiting I make the trip out to the Plymouth Road location to get my "fix". When I was a kid my sister worked at the Dearborn Hts. location as a carhop; I used to bug her to bring me home a Daly Burger almost every day. She was also teased by the other girls for putting chili on her fries...hmmmm...aren't they a menu staple now? Keep up the good work and I will be there in two weeks to get my fix!

My mom graduated from Redford High School in '61, so, I guess that's when she started going to the Daly Drive-In at Burt Rd. and Grand River. I remember getting my foot long off window tray, and thinking how cool that was! I always visit the last remaining Daly when I'm visiting from Tokyo. Got my Daly ceramic coffee cup this time!!

My wife, Kathy, and I met at the Livonia Daly's (I guess I picked her up) in the summer of '67. We married on June 20, 1969 and will be celebrating our 40th anniversary this Saturday. We have lived in the Dallas area since '91 but return to Daly's when we are in MI while visiting family/friends.

We live in Romulus. Every couple of months we get the craving for Daly's. So my family, the next door neighbors and the family across the street get together and order us up Daly's. We take the 20 min trip there to get our food and then come 20 min back home and sit at the neighbors house indulging on the goodness!!! I think we order about 1 of everything!! The food is great and nothing compares!

There aren't many things I miss in Michigan but one that I do is Daly's. Can't find anything like it in Florida. I can't tell you how many times a week I would be at the Westland location with all my friends. Boy...what I'd give for a foot long and some onion rings! GO RED WINGS!!

My Grand Parents lived on Blackstone Ave. near the Grand River location from its opening (1950's) until moving to Elk Rapids in 1971. I have many found memories of the burgers and dogs. Best in Town! The day she left Detroit for the "Great Up North" we hit the Drive Thru for a final Coney dog complete with her “bird caged trapped” kidnapped pet squirrel in tow! Daly's was a neighborhood Icon.

My best friends dad owned a towing agency next to the Dalys in Plymouth. I remember many times running next door to get lunch for all of us and how he'd joke around saying that it doesnt get any better than a daly burger with extra daly sauce, while slurpin down a large chocolate shake. Thanks for all the great memories and the best burgers around. Now Im sharing the tradition with my kids. :)
